You’re Next (2013) Review

When Paul (Rob Moran) and Aubrey (Barbara Crampton) invite their children (AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz, and Nicholas Tucci), along with their children’s significant others (Sharni Vinson, Wendy Glenn, Margaret Laney, and Ti West) to their secluded family home for their anniversary party, things don’t go as planned. As the festivities begin, the group starts to find themselves hunted by a group of prowlers wearing animal masks. One by one, each member of the party falls victim to their attackers. Who will survive the night when the animals come out to prowl?

Prior to going into this I heard nothing but hype about it. At first glance it really didn’t seem like it was going to be anything special. But it was a slasher so I wanted to keep a little positivity about it. When I finally saw it, I was having pure fun all the way through. And when it was over I immediately wanted to see it again. You’re Next is hands down the best slasher film I’ve seen since Scream. It has so many of the elements in it that I love about slashers and Scream itself. We are given a diverse group of characters that are all very interesting in their own way. Among the characters we are given plenty of fun, laughs, really great and gory kills, and most of all, an AMAZING Final Girl. I would definitely consider her the best Final Girl since Neve Campbell in Scream. She brings nothing but pure wit, intelligence, and a very tough girl attitude.

P.S., there is a song in this film that plays throughout. It WILL stick with you to the point where you want to download it right away when you get home.
